Olympics as of the fifteenth
Submitted by bkernan on 8/15/2008 4:37:12 PM on Living in China
The Olympic games have been an exciting time to be in Beijing. I watched the opening ceremony on 8.8.08 from Wangfujing. They had a huge screen set up there from which to view everything. A friend and I went sporting Team China basketball jerseys. I was Yao Ming and he was Yi Jian Lian, a major rising star among Chinese basketball players who was recently traded to the New Jersey Nets. We attracted quite a bit of attention and probably had our pictures taken at least 100 time...

Chinese National Ethnic Minorities Theme...

The most fun I’ve had in Beijing over the course of my stay here so far has been the Chinese National Ethnic Minorities Theme Park. A bit of a mouthful (and sort of an unfortunate name). I went with a group of friends last weekend, and though the entry fee is a bit steep (50 kuai), thats still under 5 dollars. Well worth it. At the park, I took part in a cultural splash festival. Apparently the splash festival comes from Yunan Province. I think it’s a tradition of the Dali pe...

Weekend Update Report
Submitted by bkernan on 7/28/2008 3:04:48 AM on Living in China
Friday: I hurried home after work to finish my online final. One of my housemates was in Hong Kong all weekend, so it was pretty quiet when I first got home. I made the customary greetings with my other friend and apartment mate, and sat down to start my homework. I then found out that a bunch of our friends were coming over to hang out before we went to Babyface Club in Sanlitun for one of our friend’s birthday parties. "Yikes!" I thought to myself. No problem thou...

Submitted by jrohn92 on 7/25/2008 1:11:38 AM on Unforgettable Travel Stories
So I was in Hohhot and we re just about to catch the train back to Beijing. Me and my friends decided to make a pit stop at McDonalds because it was just funny to eat a big mac in Inner Mongolia. After a rather funny tasting Big Mac we quickly rushed to the train. It was the same hard sleeper in a train filled with Chinese and Mongolian men that needed a shower, desperately. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt sick, so I drank some water. After a while I felt like ...
